I've teamed with acclaimd author Phil Goldberg to create a multi-platform project to tell the story of how Hindu philosophy and the practices of Yoga have profoundly influenced American culture and spirituality from the time of Emerson, Thoreau and Whitman to the Beatles’ seminal trip to India, and up through today’s thriving yoga scene.

Our biggest screening to date, more than 1,000 people attended the screening of AWAKE at the Maui Film Festival, and votes from the enthusiastic crowd propelled the film to win the festival’s “Spirit in Cinema” Award.
From the festival website: “Using a seamless mix of re-creations and fascinating true footage, this very even-tempered documentary takes its audience all the way through a saint’s life, from his first sensations in the womb to that moment in 1952 when, having receited a poem to a large crowd at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, he exited his body, just like that….In between those events, he changed the Western World.”
Paola & Lisa were featured filmmakers on the festival blog – read their Q&A here.

We were honored to receive the Audience Award for Best Film at Illuminate. The documentary received standing ovations at the first annual Illuminate Film Festival in Sedona, Arizona, where both showings sold out within hours after tickets went on sale, and the Illuminate festival organizers eventually moved the second screening to a considerably larger theater to accommodate the crowds.
A total of nearly 800 peoile attended the two screenings in Sedona, which included a Q&A with the filmmakers, a kirtan (led by Mas Vidal, one of the interviewees in the film), and a guided meditation led by Self Realization Fellowship monk Brahmachari Martin, who is also featured in the film.

People lined up around the block to attend our World Premiere screening at the Seattle International Film Festival on May 18, at the Egyptian Theater, on the very same stage where Paramahansa Yogananda first spoke to Seattle audiences nearly ninety years ago – on October 7, 1924, when it was known as the Masonic Temple. In all, he gave a total of 11 lectures and 14 classes at this venue in 1924 and 1933.
Audiences also filled the theater for a second sold-out screening at Lincoln Square Cinemas in Bellevue, bringing the total audience for AWAKE at SIFF to nearly 1,000 attendees.

It is with deep sadness that I post this obituary of David Balding, the human half of One Lucky Elephant. David, you will be missed. "Impresario, artistic director, development whiz & mainstay of Circus Flora - for David, "the circus was always a microcosm of the world, a harmonic unity of the opposites that David drew together within the grand tent...He had no children, except for Flora the elephant."
